Ann Lacy Stadium
Oklahoma City University began play in 2008 in Ann Lacy Stadium, which will be regarded as one of the finest small-college softball facilities in the nation.
The complex is located at OCU directly North of the Freede Center on the corner of NW 27th and Florida Avenue. The complex features an indoor hitting facility, locker rooms, the Paul and Kim Sanders reception area and coaches offices.
“I wanted to give the team the facilities they deserve,” Ann Lacy, the facility’s benefactor and namesake, said. “They are national champions and they should have a stadium on campus they can be very proud of.”
The facility was completed in fall 2007, unveiled on Nov. 3, 2007 and hosted its first games March 25, 2008. OCU swept Mid-America Christian 5-0, 5-1 in those first games. The stadium was dedicated on April 8, 2008.
Julie Harvey was the winning pitcher for OCU in the Stars' first win there. Melissa Moore hit the first home run at the ballpark on April 1, 2008 against Oklahoma Christian.
OCU did not had an on-campus softball field since 1992.
“Our Stars belong on campus where they can feel proud not only of what they accomplish, but also of where they play,” OCU President Tom McDaniel said. “They go out on the field and make us proud all the time. It’s only fitting for us to give them a place to play and practice right here on campus.”
OCU athletic director Jim Abbott said, “It is a state-of-the-art facility that is befitting of our elite softball program.”
